May 17, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Pawtucket Red Sox News Release
(Pawtucket, RI) - Columbus starter Michael Roth kept the Pawtucket offense off-balanced for strong 7.2 innings and Jerry Sands blasted a two-run home run as the Clippers topped the PawSox, 4-1, Sunday afternoon in front of 5,054 fans at McCoy Stadium. Columbus (22-15) earned a series victory with three straight wins after dropping the opener.
Francisco Lindor had three hits including an RBI double as the Clippers took six of seven from Pawtucket in the past 10 days. Columbus has now won 11 of its last 13 contests and owns the best record in the International League. Pawtucket finished its seven-game homestand with a 3-4 record.
Roth (4-1) scattered five hits including a solo home run by Luis Jimenez (1). The left-hander struck out seven and walked only one while throwing 113 pitches. C.C. Lee recorded the final four outs, three of them on strikeouts, to earn his first save of the season.
Columbus struck first in the second inning against PawSox starter Keith Couch (1-5) when Lindor lined a two-out RBI double. The 21-year-old star-prospect drove home six runs and recorded eight hits in the series. Couch settled down and allowed just one run and three hits in his five innings of work.
The Clippers put the game away with a three-run seventh inning against reliever Robby Scott, who was just promoted from Double-A Portland prior to the game. Lindor began the rally with a bunt single, then he scored two batters later on an RBI hit by Jesus Aguilar that deflected off the third-base bag.
The next batter was Sands, who drilled the ninth pitch he saw from Scott onto the berm in left field for his fourth home run of the season and second against Pawtucket.
No Pawtucket batter recorded more than one of the team's six hits, with Jimenez's long ball providing the only run for the home team. Lindor went 3-for-5 with a double to pace Columbus' six-hit attack.
The PawSox hit the road out west for the next seven contests, beginning with a three game series at Indianapolis. Game one is scheduled for Monday night with first pitch at 7:05 pm. Lefty Eduardo Rodriguez (3-2, 2.86) is scheduled to start for Pawtucket against Indians southpaw Clayton Richard (1-0, 0.00). Radio coverage on 920 AM (WHJJ) and also streaming online begins at 6:50 pm.
Pawtucket will return home on Memorial Day Monday, May 25th to begin a six-game homestand against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Louisville. Good seats are still available at the McCoy Stadium box office, by calling (401) 724-7300 or by visiting pawsox.com.
