Charlotte Knights News Release

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - Trayce Thompson's three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning sealed the deal for the Knights on Sunday in front of a crowd of 9,628 fans at BB&T Ballpark. It also sealed a successful homestand both on-the-field and at-the-gates for the Knights.

Thompson homered and drove home four runs, Beck tossed seven solid innings, and the Charlotte Knights beat the Syracuse Chiefs 7-1 on Sunday in the finale of their three-game series and seven-game homestand from BB&T Ballpark. The Knights won five of seven games on the homestand.

Beck (3-1, 3.43) allowed just six hits over his seven innings en-route to his third-straight victory. The Georgia native allowed one run and struck-out four batters - improving to 3-0 in Uptown Charlotte this season. Over his last three outings (19.0 innings pitched), Beck, a member of Chicago's 40-man roster, has allowed just three runs while striking out 13 batters.

The two teams were knotted in a 1-1 tie after two innings on Sunday, but the Knights charged back to score six runs the rest of the way. In the fourth inning, Thompson and Drew Garcia each hit RBI singles to give the Knights a 4-1 lead. With his team ahead, Beck cruised the rest of the way.

One inning later, slugger Dan Black legged-out his second triple of the season, which put the Knights up by a score of 5-1. Black finished the game a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored. He raised his average to .333 on the season.

Two innings later, Thompson cleared the bases with a long home run to left field off of Syracuse reliever Eric Fornataro. The home run was his third of the season. He finished the game 2-for-3 with the home run and four RBIs.

Charlotte relievers Maikel Cleto and Daniel Webb each spun a scoreless inning out of the bullpen. Syracuse starter Bruce Billings (1-3, 4.29) allowed four runs on seven hits over five innings and was saddled with the loss.

Before the game, the Knights honored former Negro League players, who were on-hand to meet and greet fans and sign autographs. Michael Turner Webb, a local Negro League Baseball historian, threw out the game's ceremonial first pitch. Local Charlotte resident Eddie G.G. Burton, along with Luther "Luke" Atkinson, Bill Catchcart, and Carl "Satch" Forney, were honored during a pre-game ceremony.

The Knights will now hit the road and make the trek to Pennsylvania and begin a three-game series with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders on Monday from Moosic, PA. RHP Junior Guerra (0-1, 2.45) will get the start for the Knights in the opening game of the series against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre LHP Matt Tracy (0-0, 3.50). First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. from PNC Field.
