Columbus Clippers News Release

On a snow-filled evening that included the coldest first pitch in the history of Huntington Park (35 degrees), the Pawtucket Red Sox's bats were simply hot.

Nine runs on nine hits were enough to power the PawSox over the Clippers 9-6.

It looked like the Clippers were in command early when Francisco Mejia launched a two-run no-doubter to right, followed by an Adam Rosales two-run inside-the-park homerun two batters later.

Rosales hammered a towering fly ball into left-center that caught a gust of wind and caused fits for Red Sox left fielder Jeremy Barfield, who went crashing into the padded wall. Mike Napoli came around to score along with Rosales to make it 4-0 after one inning.

Pawtucket jumped right back on Clippers starter Alexi Ogando in the top of the second. Mike Olt belted a two-run bomb of his own to bring the Red Sox within 4-2.

Olt saw beach balls from that point on, cranking three doubles and driving in two more runs. Mike Miller and Sam Travis each hit solo home runs off Ogando and Clippers reliever Jack Leathersich (0-1) in the fifth to tie the game and take the lead, respectively.

Ogando would go four and one-third innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on five hits and four strikeouts.

The Clippers threatened in the bottom of the seventh when Mejia laced an RBI single to right-center, but Red Sox reliever Robby Scott escaped the runners-on-the-corners jam by punching out Napoli and Rosales back-to-back to end the inning.

Ryan Brasier finished the ball game for Pawtucket, earning his first save of the year and the 9-6 win.

The Clippers and PawSox will be back at it tomorrow night at Huntington Park. First pitch will be at 6:35 p.m.
