The International League announced today that Scranton/Wilkes-Barre infielder Gleyber Torres and Indianapolis right-hander Nick Kingham have been named the League's first Batter and Pitcher of the Week for the 2018 season, covering the period from April 5-15.

GLEYBER TORRES, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders IL BATTER OF THE WEEK Over the first ten games of the 2018 season, SWB's Gleyber Torres showed why he is widely considered to be the top prospect in the Yankees farm system. While seeing time at second base, shortstop, and third base, Torres hit .385 with a League-best fifteen hits. He's currently 2nd in the IL in both total bases (22) and RBI (10). His early exploits this season include a four-hit game on April 8 and a three-RBI game on April 14, all helping get the RailRiders out of the gate with a League-best record of 7-3.

21-year-old Gleyber Torres is in his fifth season playing professionally. He originally signed with the Cubs as an international free agent, but in 2016 he was traded to the Yankees as part of the deal for Aroldis Chapman. He entered 2018 ranked by MLB.com as one of the top five prosects in all of baseball. He has yet to make his Major League debut. Torres is a native of Caracas, Venezuela.

NICK KINGHAM, Indianapolis Indians IL PITCHER OF THE WEEK Through his first two starts of the 2018 season, Indianapolis righty Nick Kingham has allowed just one run on four hits through 11.0 innings of work while striking out a League-best sixteen batters. Ten of those punchouts came on Indy's Opening Day loss to Columbus, when Kingham tossed 5.0 scoreless innings before the bullpen surrendred eleven runs to the Clippers. Kingham was back on the hill to close out the homestand Wednesday and led the Tribe to a 4-1 triumph over Toledo. He picked up his first victory of the season behind 6.0 innings of three-hit, one-run baseball. Through two starts, Kingham's ERA is a mere 0.82.

26-year-old Nick Kingham is in his ninth season as a professional pitcher since being selected by Pittsburgh in the 4th round of the 2010 draft. He first reached the Triple-A level in 2014 but has yet to make his debut in the Major Leagues. Kingham is a native of Houston, Texas.
