Clippers Beat RailRiders 4-1

April 26, 2013 - International League (IL1)
Columbus Clippers News Release

Despite losing starter Carlos Carrasco to injury in the fifth inning, Columbus held strong and secured a 4-1 win over the RailRiders at PNC Field.

Columbus would grab an early lead in the top of the third on a Matt Lawson RBI single and a wild pitch by RailRiders starter Chien Ming-Wang that allowed Tim Fedroff to score from third.

A scary moment would occur in this game when Clippers starter Carlos Carrasco was hit with a line drive off the bat of Corban Joseph. Carrasco would walk off on his own power and leave with an undisclosed injury.

The Clippers would continue to add to their lead in the top of the seventh on a Fedroff RBI single. Matt Carson would add an RBI sacrifice fly in the eighth.

Despite a solo homer by Austin Romine in the ninth inning and the RailRiders bringing the tying run to the plate with two outs, the Clippers were able to hold on for the 4-1 win over Scranton/WB. Giovanni Soto (W, 1-1) received the win for Columbus. Chien Ming-Wang (L, 1-1) took the loss for RailRiders. Clippers closer Preston Guilmet (S, 7) tallied the save.

The RailRiders and Clippers will conclude their four game series with one another on Friday night. The starter for Columbus has yet to be determined. Right-hander Brett Marshall (0-2, 9.69) is scheduled to pitch for Scranton/Wilkes Barre. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
