Bisons Rally for 8-4 Win over PawSox
April 26, 2013 - International League (IL1)
Pawtucket Red Sox News Release
BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The hottest team in the International League was at it again Friday, as the Buffalo Bisons slugged their way past the Pawtucket Red Sox by an 8-4 final, winning for the 11th time in the last 12 games.
A day after the PawSox ended the Bisons' nine-game winning streak in the first half of a doubleheader, Buffalo bounced back from a 4-2 deficit with six unanswered runs.
The Bisons actually struck first for the third straight game in the series, with two 1st-inning runs on RBI singles by Luis Jimenez and Josh Thole off Pawtucket starter Chris Hernandez. The Sox responded with a two-run top of the 2nd, thanks to a run-scoring single by Jose Iglesias and RBI double by Dan Butler.
Pawtucket then scored twice more in the 3rd, after Bryce Brentz and Jeremy Hazelbaker produced back-to-back singles to score Drew Sutton and Justin Henry, respectively. But Buffalo right-hander Claudio Vargas (W, 3-0) combined with relievers Alex Hinshaw and Neil Wagner to limit the PawSox to one hit and three total base runners the final six innings.
Meanwhile, the Bisons charged back by scoring six runs on 10 hits from the 3rd through 8th innings. Six of those hits went for extra bases, including homers by Moises Sierra, Egenio Velez and Jimenez.
Jimenez finished with three hits and two RBI, raising his league-leading total to 23 runs produced. Jim Negrych entered with the IL's best average at .460 and went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles. One of them drove in the go-ahead run off Oscar Villareal (L, 3-2), helping Negrych raise his mark to .481.
Right-hander Joel Hanrahan worked an inning for Pawtucket on an injury-rehab assignment, allowing two runs on two hits, the last of which was Velez's home run. His fastball was consistently clocked in the mid-90s and Hanrahan totaled 14 pitches and 9 strikes.
The PawSox return to Pawtucket, where they are scheduled to host Columbus at 6:05 p.m. on Saturday.
