Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
WILMINGTON, DE - Cortland Lawson broke a 3-3 tie with a 10th inning RBI single and Wilmington topped the BlueClaws 4-3 on Saturday night at Frawley Stadium.
The loss was Jersey Shore's third straight and dropped them to two games back of first place Brooklyn, who won at Asheville earlier on Saturday.
The BlueClaws could not score the inherited runner in the top of the 10th, but Wilmington got a fly ball to move the runner to third. An intentional walk put runners on the corners before Lawson's hit off Matt Russell (5-7) won the game.
Orlando Ribalta (2-0) got the last six outs for Wilmington and earned the win.
Jersey Shore opened the scoring in the second inning on a single from Cole Moore, which included an error, allowing Leandro Pineda to score. Moore had three hits on Friday night, his first three since joining the BlueClaws earlier this week.
Cortland Lawson tied the game with an RBI single off Samuel Aldegheri in the bottom of the fourth. Sammy Infante followed with an RBI single to put the Blue Rocks up 2-1.
Aldegheri came out after four innings, allowing two runs on four hits with five strikeouts and one walk.
The game remained 2-1 into the seventh, when Leandro Pineda came through with a two-run double to put the BlueClaws back in front 3-2. Pineda's hit was his fourth of the game and was the first for the BlueClaws, in their 11th at bat, with runners in scoring position in the game.
Wilmington responded in the bottom of the eighty. Murphy Stehly double in a run off Wen-Hui Pan to tie the game. Pan then balked Stehly to third with one out. Pan struck out Cortland Lawson for the second out before Matt Suggs walked to load the bases. Pan then got Sammy Infante to fly out to center with the bases loaded to end the inning.
Rodolfo Sanchez threw two scoreless innings in relief for Jersey Shore.
Pineda had four hits in the loss while Bryan Rincon had three.
The teams finish their series on Sunday at 1:05 pm. LHP Rafael Marcano starts for Jersey Shore.
