Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
GREENVILLE, SC-Alan Robbins hit his first professional home run and drove in three, while Quintin Berry added three more hits as Lakewood ended a four-game skid with a 7-5 win over Greenville on Wednesday night.
Robbins' homer came in the 5th after he had an RBI double in the 3rd. Berry went 3-4 on the night and finishes the eight-game road trip 20-39, with hits in seven of the eight games (all multi-hit games). He also scored two runs and with 137 hits, he is just three behind Jake Blalock for the single-season hit record, which was set in 2004.
Lakewood (26-25) finishes their road trip at 4-4 after winning the first three over Augusta before dropping the finale and the first three to Greenville (25-28).
The BlueClaws scored single runs in each of the first three innings and built a 3-1 lead on Jimmy James and Greenville. Berry led off the game with a bunt single and scored on a throwing error by LF Reid Engel in the first. CJ Henry, who had two hits, doubled in Welinson Baez in the 2nd, and Robbins doubled in Gus Milner in the 3rd.
James (2-3), allowed five runs (four earned) over 4 2/3.
Scott Mitchinson (2-1) allowed a first inning homer to Jason Place (11) but only one other run over his five innings of work and left with a 5-2 lead after Robbins went deep in the top of the 5th to drive in two more.
Adrian Cardenas had an eventful 6th inning against reliever Brantley New. He doubled in Berry with one out, and was on third with Gus Milner with two outs when the two executed a successful double steal, and Cardenas gets a stolen base of home plate. Julian Williams had previously done that twice this year for Lakewood.
Greenville got back in the game when Jon Egan tripled in three runs off of Matt German in the 7th, but German got through the 8th and Garet Hill pitched the 9th for his 6th save.
The BlueClaws come home for four games with first- place Hickory on Friday night at 7:05. RHP Carlos Monasterios (9-10, 4.82) throws for the BlueClaws against Crawdads RHP Matt McSwain (2-0, 4.81).
With Hickory's loss to Columbus, the Crawdads come to FirstEnergy Park six games ahead of Lakewood in the SAL Northern Division.
