
Jackets Finish off Shorebirds for Series Win

Augusta, GA - The GreenJackets (50-20, 30-23) won the final game of their eight game home stand over the Delmarva Shorebirds (34-33, 25-27) on Wednesday night with an 8-2 victory. Starter Steven Calicutt recorded the win while Mike McBryde and Brett Pill each drove in two runs to lead the Augusta offense.
The GreenJackets broke the game open in the fifth inning by sending 10 batters to plate and scoring five times for an 8-0 lead. Emmanuel Burriss scored the first run from third base on a throwing error from Delmarva catcher Michael Pierce as he tried to throw out Sanders on a steal of second but the throw bounced into center field.
Augusta then received RBI base hits from Brett Pill and Henry Gutierrez while Mike McByrde finished off the scoring in the fifth inning with a two-run single for the 8-0 lead.
Calicutt (4-5) worked six innings and allowed one unearned run on four hits while walking three and striking out four.
The GreenJackets took the early lead in the first inning plating three runs on three hits for a 3-0 lead. Bobby Felmy got the scoring started with an RBI single scoring Emmanuel Burriss from second and moving Marcus Sanders to third base.
Felmy then stole second base and on the play Delmarva catcher Michael Pierce was charged with a throwing error allowing Sanders to score from third for a 2-0 lead and Felmy moved to third. Brett Pill followed with an RBI ground out to cap off the scoring in the frame.
The Shorebirds got single runs in the sixth and eighth innings on RBI ground outs from Todd Davision and Chris Vinyard.
The GreenJackets are off on Thursday but return to action on Friday night in Charleston, SC against the RiverDogs. Augusta will send right-hander Kevin Pucetas (14-3, 1.80) to the hill in the first game of the series on Friday night. The RiverDogs will counter with righty Eric Hacker (8-2, 2.93). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
Game Notes:
Augusta took three-of-four from Delmarva and finished its eight game home stand 4-4
Calicutt worked six innings for the first time since April 21, his third start of the season.
Burriss extended his hitting streak to eight straight games.
Augusta had four stolen bases in the game, two from Burriss and one each from Felmy and Sanders.
