Clarke named Player of the Week

[FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.] - Mike Clarke of the Fayetteville FireAntz, today, was named the Sherwood Player of the Week in the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL). For the week, Clarke registered two goals, four assists and was +4. Clarke now leads all defensmen in the SPHL in scoring with two goals and 13 assists for 15 points.

The Toronto, Ontario native joins teammates Jomar Cruz (10/21-10/29) and Josh Welter (11/14-11/20) as winners of the award thus far this season.

On Thursday, November 24th, Clarke assisted on two power play goals, to George Nistas and Welter, in the 2nd period en route to a 6-1 victory against the Pee Dee Cyclones.

Clarke netted his first goal of the season, against the Jacksonville Barracudas, on Friday, November 25th. He also contributed two assists in the 8-3 victory.

On Saturday, the 26th, the FireAntz lost 4-2 in Knoxville. Clarke, however, scored his second goal in as many nights, cutting the Ice Bears lead to 2-1 at the end of the 1st period.

"Mike has been a great workhorse on the blueline for us." Head Coach Derek Booth added, "I couldn't be happier with his play."
