Cincinnati Cyclones News Release

Weekly Recap:

Game #5: Saturday, October 26, Cincinnati Cyclones 2 at Toledo Storm 3

The Cyclones had their two-game win streak snapped by the first-place Toledo Storm 3-2 on Saturday at the Toledo Sports Arena. Cincinnati had goals from Nick Bootland (PPG) and Aaron Brand to take a 2-1 lead into the third period. The Storm managed two power-play goals in a span of 2:17 in the final period to earn the one-goal win. Toledo finished the night 3-for-5 on the power play, even though Cincinnati entered the game with the league's best penalty kill rate at 95.7%. Goaltender Greg Hewitt made 23 saves against 26 shots, but suffered his third loss.

The Week Ahead:

Game #6: Saturday, November 2, Cincinnati Cyclones at Peoria Rivermen

The Cyclones travel to Peoria, Illinois in meeting the Rivermen on Saturday. The Cyclones will try to avenge a season-opening 2-1 loss to the Rivermen. Head Coach Jason Christie's team is currently in second place in the ECHL's Northwest Division with a record of 4-1-2 for 10 points. The Rivermen play on Friday at Dayton prior to hosting the Cyclones. The Rivermen are once again one of the league's top defensive teams. Through the club's first seven games Peoria has yielded just 17 goals against which is the second fewest in the Northern Conference. Veteran goaltenders Duane Derksen and Alfie Michaud have split the chores, but it has been Derksen with the better numbers (2-1-1, 1.93 GAA, ..930 SPCT). Collectively as a tandem, the two have combined for a .911 SPCT. Offensively, Tyler Rennette is off to a career-year start with 11 points (7g, 4a) in the first seven games. Others contributing early have been Brendan Brooks (2g, 5a), Ryan Finnerty (2g, 4a), and Chris Wells (2g, 3a). Toughness abounds on this club with Jeremy Yablonski quickly proving to be one of the league's heavyweights, and Brad Voth arguably possessing the league's greatest wingspan.

Transactions:

This past Friday the Cyclones signed free agent forward Josh Maser, waived first-year forward Sebastien Thinel, moved defenseman Robin Delacour from the 7-Day IR List to the 30-Day IR List, and placed defenseman Tom Scantlebury on the 7-Day IR List.

Cyclones Notables:

"Gaucher Streaks" Cyclones defenseman Ryan Gaucher has registered at least one point in each game played this season. Gaucher kept his season-long streak alive with an assist in Saturday's game at Toledo. If having a defenseman lead the team in scoring and start the season on a streak sounds familiar, remember during the 2000-01 campaign when defenseman Andrei Lupandin did the same through the first seven games of the season. "Special Teams Implode" After entering the weekend with the league's top penalty-kill unit (95.7%) and the ninth best power play rate (29.5%), the Cyclones stumbled against Toledo by allowing the Storm to go 3-for-5 on the power play, and only converting one of six man-advantage opportunities for themselves. "Road Warriors" The Cyclones close out their five-game road swing with a date at Peoria this Saturday. When the team next takes U.S. Bank Arena ice, (Wed., Nov. 6 vs. Toledo) it will mark the Cyclones' first home game in 25 days.

Upcoming Schedule/Promotions:

11/2 at Peoria Rivermen, 8:05 PM

11/6 vs. TOLEDO STORM, 7:05 PM

11/8 vs. LEXINGTON MENOWAR, 7:05 PM
