Louisiana IceGators News Release
A night after losing 3-1 to a Baton Rouge team that Dave Farrish said had "fire in their eyes," the Louisiana IceGators breathed some smoke of their own, routing the Jackson Bandits 6-1 on Sunday at the Cajundome. The win wrapped up a 2-1-0 week for the IceGators, who had beaten Arkansas 5-2 at home on Friday.
Bruce Richardson had four assists, Daniel Goneau had a goal and two helpers and Kenny Corupe scored twice, as the IceGators routed the Jackson Bandits 6-1 at the Cajundome. Cal Benazic, Bobby Brown and rookie Chris Taliercio also scored and Frederic Cloutier made 28 saves to move to 5-0-0 for the IceGators, who kept Jackson off the board during eight power play opportunities.
Cloutier's bid for an eighth career shutout was ruined with 5:06 left when former first-round draft pick Kevin Grimes beat the second-year netminder with a screened one-timer from the left point.
Shawn McNeil's five-game goal-scoring streak was snapped in the contest, although both he and Kevin Mitchell extended their point streaks to seven games.
Saturday, Clark Jones scored twice in the opening 4:06 of the game and Jeff Blair made 37 saves in a spectacular performance, as the Baton Rouge Kingfish handed the IceGators their first loss of the season, a 3-1 defeat at the Riverside Centroplex.
McNeil scored the lone goal for Louisiana, which was trying to start the season with a franchise-record 6-0-0 mark. Kyle Kettles made 21 saves in net for the IceGators. Friday, Nathan Rempel and Taliercio each scored twice as the IceGators rallied from an early deficit for an impressive 5-2 win over the Arkansas RiverBlades at the Cajundome.
McNeil also scored Cloutier made 22 saves for his 32nd as an IceGator, moving him past Bryan Schoen into third place on the team's all-time list.
Former IceGator Matt Pagnutti and Kyle Kos each scored for Arkansas, while former IceGator Jason Saal made 28 saves. McNeil had the game-tying goal in the first period with a textbook move at the 15:25 mark. He took a pass from Benazic at the blueline and faked a defender to the ground. McNeil was almost tripped up himself, barely staying on his feet. He then crossed with Corupe, maneuvered himself into the slot and ripped a shot top shelf past Saal, his former teammate.
Saal dropped to 2-5-3 against his former team.

Richardson has a big night - IceGators center Bruce Richardson had Louisiana's first four-assist night in more than a season Sunday. Richardson became the first IceGator with four helpers since Mike Murray accomplished the feat on March 24, 2001, at home against Birmingham. Richardson assisted on childhood friend Daniel Goneau's tally, Louisiana's first of the game, at the 11:17 mark of the first period against Jackson. Richardson assisted on Chris Taliercio's second period goal, then picked up helpers on third period goals by Bobby Brown on the power play and Cal Benazic's shorthanded score. Richardson has nine points (2g, 7a) through seven games and his four assists and points were both career highs for one game.
Good week for rookie Sarich - Rookie blueliner Rod Sarich picked up his first pro point, an assist, Friday against Arkansas, and added another helper Sunday against Jackson.

McNeil's longest point streak of his career is 12, from January 19-February 16, 2001. McNeil also set a career-high with a goal in five straight games. Mitchell (0g, 10a) has a point in each of his last 12 regular-season games, dating back to last season. He has already bettered his career-best point streak (six games) and assist streak (three games).
That's Amor-e - IceGators winger Semir Ben-Amor, a native of Finland, picked up his first assist in North America in Saturday's 3-1 loss to Baton Rouge. Ben-Amor picked up a power play helper on Shawn McNeil's second-period goal.
