Idaho Falls Chukars News Release
Idaho Falls, ID - After five straight losses to start the home stand, the Chukars stormed back down four in the fifth inning, taking a one run lead. The Chukars held the Owlz scoreless over the final four innings, winning 6-5. With Ogden beating Missoula, Idaho Falls now has a one game lead in the Northern Division.
For the first time at home in the month of July, the Chukars got on the board in the first inning. Jose Marquez started the frame with a double, and Clay Dungan followed with a one out double, scoring Marquez to make it 1-0 Chukars.
Yet the lead didn't last long. Johan Sala led off the second with a single, and then stole second. Sala got to third on a ground out, and then scored on an error with the infield in. Brandon White, who reach on the error, stole second and got to third on a throwing error on the play. He eventually scored on a wild pitch, making it 2-0.
Orem added to their lead in the third on a David Clawson two run homer, and got another run in the fifth inning on a fielders choice, extending their advantage to 5-1. However, they wasted chances for a lot more. The Owlz stranded the bases loaded in both the fourth and fifth innings, stranding nine total through five innings.
The fifth inning started with a Juan Carlos Negret single against Emilker Guzman, but Guzman struck out the next two. Kember Nacero then doubled, scoring Negret to make it 5-2. That brought up Jose Marquez, who grounded a ball to the right side of the infield. Marquez reached on a single, but an errant throw from second baseman Jose Quezada allowed Nacero to score and moved Marquez to second.
Brady McConnell stepped in next, and doubled into the left center field gap, scoring Marquez. Clay Dungan stepped in next, and the same play that occurred with Marquez happened with him, scoring McConnell to tie the game and moving Dungan to second. That ended the night for Guzman, who exited in favor of Jacob Voss. Voss walked Rhett Aplin, and then hit Michael Emodi. Negret stepped in for the second time and walked, scoring Dungan to give the Chukars the lead.
Christian Cosby (W, 1-1), exited after the sixth inning, allowing just one run in 3.2 innings out of the bullpen. Brad Bonnenfant (SV, 1) faced one over the minimum through his first 2 2/3 innings, but allowed the tying run, White, to reach on a two out single in the ninth. Emodi though caught White stealing to end the game, snapping the Chukars five game losing streak.
