Great Falls Voyagers News Release

Colorado Springs, CO - The Voyagers clubbed a season-high in homers and set a new season-high in runs with a 12-0 game two victory over the Rocky Mountain Vibes Monday night at UCHealth Park. Great Falls (13-14) matched its season-high winning streak of four, and improved to 7-10 on the road. The Voyagers are 8-3 in their last eleven. Great Falls remains just two games back of first-place Idaho Falls in the North Division with 10 to play. Rocky Mountain (11-18) has lost two straight and fell to 5-11 at home. The Voyagers seized an early lead with a two-run home run in the top of the second by Cameron Simmons. Sam Abbott led off the inning with a line-drive single to right-center and extended his team-best hitting streak to 10. The homer for Simmons was his first as a professional, and pushed his hitting streak to six.

Great Falls then scored in five consecutive innings to finish the game. The Voyagers made it 3-0 with a tally in the fifth on a Luis Mieses RBI single to right-center that scored Caberea Weaver. Weaver reached base with a one-out walk.

In the sixth, the Voyagers sent seven men to the plate for a three-spot that stretched the lead to 6-0. Tyrus Greene reached base with a bunt single up the third base line. The pitcher's throw sailed over first and Greene advanced all the way to third. Joshua Rivera then coaxed a walk. With two outs, Tom Archer drove in Greene with a single right. Caberea Weaver brought the next two home with a double to left.

Great Falls plated single runs in the seventh and eighth innings. With two outs in the seventh, Cameron Simmons crushed his second home run of the game high and deep to left-center to become the first Voyager with a two-homer game this season. In the eighth, Bryan Connell led off with a double up the left field line. A two-out triple banged off the wall in right-center by Luis Curbelo made it 8-0.

The home run binge was capped off by a Bryan Connell grand slam in the ninth. It was the first big fly for Connell in a Voyagers uniform. The three homers for Great Falls set a new single-game high this season.

The Voyagers outhit the Vibes 13-to-5. Every batter in the Great Falls lineup reached base at least once. Five different players posted multi-hit games. Cameron Simmons went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs. Simmons has five hits in the first two games of the series. Bryan Connell finished 2-for-5 with four RBIs and two runs. It was Connell's first multi-hit game of the season.

Avery Weems dazzled on the mound for his first win in the Pioneer League. Weems (1-0) worked seven innings and gave up just three hits with 10 strikeouts and two walks. It was the longest start by a Voyager pitcher this season and the most strikeouts. Brock Begue took the loss for Rocky Mountain. Begue (0-1) went three innings and allowed two earned runs on four hits with four strikeouts and one walk. Great Falls plays game three of four at Colorado Springs against Rocky Mountain Tuesday night at 6:40. The Voyagers return home Friday, July 19th to face Missoula in a three-game series.
