Idaho Falls Chukars News Release

BILLINGS , MT --- Evening up a three-game series at one game apiece, the Idaho Falls Chukars beat the Billings Mustangs on Tuesday night by a score of 5-3 at Dehler Park.

Sporting a two-game losing skid coming into the night, the Chukars fell behind early against the Mustangs after a RBI triple from outfielder Dalton Carter broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the second inning to make the score 1-0.

Scoring just one run in the first 11 innings of the series, the Chukars bats finally came alive in the third inning.

After third basemen Jeckson Flores was hit by a Franderlyn Romero pitch to begin the innings, a single by outfielder Cody Jones put runners on first and second with one out. Once a flyout advanced Flores to third, outfielder Amalani Fukofuka brought him in with a RBI single that tied up the game. Two batters later, a two-run single by outfielder Roman Collins brought in Jones and Fukofuka to make the score 3-1.

Unfortunately for Idaho Falls, the lead would only hold until the bottom of that inning. With four hits against Chukars starting pitcher Daniel Concepcion and two run-scoring groundouts off the bat of Mustangs first basemen Raydel Medina and outfielder Ed Charlton, Billings tied up the game 3-3 by the end of the inning.

Concepcion finished of the night with a no-decision, giving up those three runs on seven hits in 4.2 innings pitch.

With two outs in the bottom of the fifth, Concepcion was replaced by lefty Tripp Davis, who took advantage of his first appearance since pitching in the Pioneer League All-Star game in Spokane last week.

The 24-year-old southpaw got Concepcion out of a first-and-third jam in the fifth, and then went on to retire nine of the next ten batters he faced to improve to 4-2 on the year. Davis struck out four batters in 3.1 total innings tossed and dropped his season earned run average to 2.70 with the victory.

Davis earned the victory after the Chukars scored their eventual go-ahead run in the seventh inning. After Jones reached base on a fielders choice and stole second, he advanced to third and scored on two separate wild pitches to put the Chukars up 4-3.

Idaho Falls scored their final insurance run in the ninth inning on a RBI single from Flores.

To finish off the game, righty Brian Bayliss notched his second save of his rookie season by sending down the Mustangs in order.

The win improved the Chukars league-best record in the second half to 9-3. Idaho Falls now has a two-game lead in the Pioneer League South division standings in the second half.

To finish off their week-long road trip in Montana and three-game series against the Billings Mustangs, the Chukars will send RHP Todd Eaton to the mound on Wednesday night. Billings will counter with RHP Tanner Rainey for the series rubbermatch. First pitch is at 7:05 PM.
