Great Falls Voyagers News Release
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (August 11, 2015)Â - The Great Falls Voyagers hung on late for their second straight one-run win over the Grand Junction Rockies Tuesday night at Suplizio Field, taking a 4-3 decision to clinch a series win and a winning record on their seven-game road trip.
Starting pitching dominated early Tuesday, with both starters keeping the opposing offenses off the board until the fourth. After singling with one out, Johan Cruz was at third with two down when Zach Fish brought him home with a single to give Great Falls (8-4, 25-23) the contest's first run, and the only run surrendered by Rockies starter Parker French (2-3).
Great Falls then added three in the sixth. Cruz plated one with an RBI single, and Jake Jarvis came in to score a second run on the play, after a fielder error by Sam Hilliard. Antonio Rodriguez followed with a run-scoring single, extending his hitting streak to nine in a row, a season-high.
Matt Ball (2-4) kept the Rockies (2-10, 22-28) off the board through his five innings of work, scattering four hits to earn his second win in his last three starts.
Grand Junction broke through against the Voyager bullpen in the seventh. After the first two Rockies walked and then moved up on a wild pitch, Bobby Stahel pushed across the home team's first tally of the night with a ground out. Grand Junction added another marker one batter later, when Cole Anderson singled.
In the eighth, the Rockies pulled within a run, as Hilliard tripled and then scored on a base knock by Tyler Nevin, who was thrown out by Rodriguez trying to stretch his hit to a double.
Carrying a one-run edge into the ninth, the Voyagers sent Alex Katz out for his second inning of work. The southpaw gave up a lead-off double to Chris Rabago, and saw him take third on a ground out. Rabago was stranded there however, as Katz slammed the door with a strikeout and a ground out to earn his first save with Great Falls.
The Voyagers go for a sweep of the Rockies as they wrap-up up their seven-game road trip Wednesday night at Suplizio Field. Great Falls will turn to right-hander Brannon Easterling (4-1, 3.22), while Grand Junction will counter with fellow righty Gavin Glanz (2-2, 5.90). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., and coverage will begin at 6:50 on 1400 AM KXGF and gfvoyagers.com.
