August 18, 2018 - Pioneer League (PL)
Idaho Falls Chukars News Release

In a rare Pioneer League Pitchers dual, the Great Falls Voyagers score twice in the 10th inning on 3 Chukars errors in the inning to win 3-2 in the opening game of a 3 game weekend series at Melaleuca Field.

Connor Mayes pitched 5 solid innings as the Chukars starter, allowing 1 run and 5 hits. Mayes struck out 6 batters, which was the most he has struck out since he fanned 9 Ogden Raptors on June 18th.

Jaret Hellinger was solid in relief, throwing 3 scoreless innings, allowing 2 hits. Jordan Floyd pitched a perfect 9th inning and didn't allow a hit or a walk in 2 innings of relief, but was the hard luck losing pitcher after allowing 2 unearned runs in the top of the 10th inning.

The Chukars had 3 costly errors in a 2 run top of the 10th inning. Offerman Collado made an error to put runners at the corners. Than a swinging bunt back to the mound off the bat of Lenyn Sosa in front of home plate was fielded by Floyd, who threw the ball into right field, scoring Micah Coffey. Right Fielder Nate Eaton threw the ball errantly and rolled all the way to the backstop, scoring Romy Gonzalez.

Idaho Falls scored 1 run in the bottom of the 10th on an Offerman Collado RBI single as Angel Medina scored to make it a 3-2 game. Voyagers relief pitcher Jack Maynard followed that by striking out Nate Eaton and Reed Rohlman to end the game.

4 of the 5 base hits by the Chukars were for extra bases. Rohlman hit his league leading 21st double of the season. Eaton and Medina also hit doubles. Jose Caraballo got the scoring started for the Chukars by hitting his 3rd triple of the season in the top of the first inning, scoring Nate Eaton to give the Chukars a 1-0 lead.

Game 2 of the 3 game series is Saturday night at Melaleuca Field. Reigning Pioneer League pitcher of the week, Jonathan Heasley gets the ball for Idaho Falls. He's going to be opposed by RHP Jason Bilous. 7:15 pm first pitch.

Chukars notes: Great Falls won despite going 0 for 10 with runners in scoring position. The Chukars struck out 13 times tonight. That means the Chukars have struck out 59 times in their last 5 home games. Andres Martin went 0 for 4, which ended his 8 game hitting streak. Not a single Chukars player had more than 1 hit in the game. Amado Nunez was the only Voyager to have a multiple hit game (2).
