
Late Runs Sink Voyagers in Idaho Falls

Idaho Falls, ID - The Voyagers walked six batters over a two-inning span and let an early lead slip away late in a 6-5 loss to the Chukars Saturday night at Melaleuca Field.
Great Falls (27-31, 5-15) fell to 3-3 against Idaho Falls in the season series. The Voyagers are 13-10 against the South Division, and 8-18 on the road. The Chukars (31-27, 10-10) improved to 14-12 at home, and 12-11 against the North. The Voyagers jumped ahead with a pair of runs in both the 2nd and 3rd innings. Amado Nunez led off the 2nd with a walk. Alex Destino made it 1-0 with a line drive double to the alley in right-center that scored Nunez all the way from first. Later in the frame, Gunnar Troutwine brought the second run home with an RBI groundout to the shortstop. In the 3rd, Romy Gonzalez led off with a triple to the wall in left-center. Lenyn Sosa reached second on a fielder's choice as Gonzalez was tagged out in a rundown between third and home with a ground ball back to the pitcher. Sosa scored on a Bryce Bush RBI single to right-center. Nunez made it 4-0 with an RBI single to left.
The Chukars' comeback began with a two-spot in the 6th. Nate Eaton and Reed Rohlman both singled to start the inning. Chase Vallot reached with a one-out walk. With the bases loaded and two outs, Angel Medina and Hunter Strong both walked and the Great Falls lead was trimmed to 4-2.
Idaho Falls surged in front for good with a four-run 7th. Offerman Collado led off the frame with an infield single behind the mound. Nate Eaton coaxed a walk. Reed Rohlman loaded the bases with a bunt single to third. Jose Caraballo leveled the game with a two-run single lined into right. Chase Vallot gave the Chukars their first lead with an RBI double lined into the left field corner. Jesus Atencio made it 6-4 with a sacrifice fly to right that scored Caraballo. The Voyagers pushed a run across in the 9th, but the tying run was left stranded at second.
The Chukars outhit the Voyagers 11-to-10. Nate Eaton and Reed Rohlman each posted three hits with two runs. For Great Falls, Alex Destino collected three hits including a double with one RBI and one run. Amado Nunez and Bryce Bush both went 2-for-3 with a walk, one RBI, and one run.
Domingo Pena earned the win in relief for Idaho Falls. Pena (3-4) pitched the final four innings and gave up one earned run on four hits with three strikeouts and no walks. Vince Arobio took the loss. Arobio (1-5) went one-third of an inning and allowed four earned runs on three hits with one strikeout and two walks. The Voyagers pitching staff matched a season-high with seven walks.
