Great Falls Voyagers News Release

Idaho Falls, ID - The Voyagers extra-inning woes came to an end Friday night with a 3-2, 10-inning victory over the Chukars in the series opener at Melaleuca Field.

Great Falls (27-30, 5-14) snapped a two-game losing streak, and improved to 3-2 against Idaho Falls in the season series. It broke a four-game losing streak in extra innings, and marked the first win in extras since July 4th. The Voyagers are 13-9 against the South Division, and 8-17 on the road. The Chukars (30-27, 9-10) fell to 13-12 at home, and 11-11 against the North. Idaho Falls dropped to 1-1 in extras this season.

Both sides scored early runs in the game. Idaho Falls made it 1-0 with two extra-base hits in the bottom of the 1st. With one out, Nate Eaton doubled up the left field line. A two-out triple from Jose Caraballo into the right field corner brought Eaton home.

Great Falls quickly answered to tie it in the 2nd with a solo home run by Amado Nunez that traveled high in the air and over the wall near the right field pole. It was Nunez's second homer of the season and extended his hitting streak to five.

Seven consecutive scoreless innings pushed the game into extras. The Voyagers managed to score twice in the top of the 10th thanks to three Idaho Falls errors. With Micah Coffey pinch running at second base to start the inning, Travis Moniot laid down a successful sacrifice bunt that advanced Coffey to third. Romy Gonzalez then reached on a ground ball to the shortstop that resulted in a wide throw at first. The next batter, Lenyn Sosa, hit a slow grounder in front of home that was thrown behind first by the pitcher and up the right field line. Coffey scored on the play. The throw home from right field also went awry and allowed Gonzalez to score the second run for a 3-1 lead. The Chukars scored once in the bottom of the 10th but the final two batters struck out with runners at first and second.

On the mound, Austin Conway picked up the win in relief. Conway (2-1) went two scoreless and hitless innings with two strikeouts. Jordan Floyd took the loss. Floyd (2-2) worked two innings and gave up two runs with three strikeouts. Jack Maynard notched his first professional save with one run allowed on one hit. Maynard struck out two in the 10th with one walk. Davis Martin racked up four strikeouts as well in three scoreless relief innings.
