Chucks Come up Short, Fall to Bombers 8-7

Battle Creek, Mich The Wisconsin Woodchucks came up 180 feet on a comeback attempt against the Battle Creek Bombers after trailing 8-0 heading into the bottom of the eighth, as the Bombers won 8-7.After the Woodchucks were retired 1-2-3 in the first, it was the Bombers that would pounce first in their half of the inning. With Dylan Delaney on second and one out, Jared Hook lined the first pitch he saw from Chevy Numata into left field for an RBI single, giving the Bombers a 1-0 lead.The Bombers would add onto their lead in the bottom of the second. Colin Willis came to the plate with runners on first and second and two outs and lined a base hit up the middle, scoring Kody Carson from second and giving Battle Creek an early 2-0 lead.The score would stay 2-0 until the bottom of the fourth, when the Bombers added, capitalizing on some control issues by "˜Chuck reliever Jordan Jess. Jess walked lead-off batter Kyle Figgens, then threw one to the back-stop, allowing Figgins to advance to advance to second base. AJ Spanel came up with Figgins on second and and one out and lined a ball into right field that scored Figgins and gave the Bombers a 3-0 lead.Jess' control would bite the Woodchucks again in the sixth as the Bombers extended their lead. Tom Albert drew a lead-off walk and eventually scored, aided by two Jess wild pitches to put the Bombers on top 4-0.The wheels came off for the Woodchucks in the eighth. The Bombers scored four runs on our hits, including a two-run single by Tom Albert to make it 8-0 Battle Creek.The Woodchucks would score a run in the eighth when Brooks Braga came in from third on a wild pitch, but it would not matter as the Bombers downed the Woodchucks 8-1.

The "˜Chucks, as they have done this entire season, did not go down without a fight. They sent eight batters to the plate in the ninth, scoring six runs and cutting the Bomber lead to one run. With the tying run on second and two outs, Brian Smith smashed a ball to right field, but it was caught in front of the warning track by Tom Albert to end the Woodchucks threat.

The two teams will face off again tomorrow in Battle Creek with first pitch at 5:05 EDT and 4:05 CDT.
