Mankato MoonDogs News Release
MANKATO, Minn.--The Mankato MoonDogs Baseball Club, a member of the Northwoods League, are pleased to announce a deadly 8-0 victory over the Rochester Honkers at The Frank, Saturday evening by crushing the ball with six extra-base hits continuing the undefeated streak at home and maintaining a top spot in the Northern Division.
Kyle McGrath (Louisville) got the start on the mound as he looked to redeem himself after his first appearance with a loss in Duluth v. the Huskies. McGrath had nothing short of redemption with getting the win going six-innings and striking out eight.
With the winds blowing in at Franklin Rodgers everyone thought the MoonDogs would have to show off the small ball skills to win this Northwoods match up. The MoonDogs nine thought otherwise.
Blaire Moore (Cal Baptist) stayed on fire with a two-for-four night at the plate with a double and a laser homerun in the first to right field directly into the strong wind.
Chad Christensen (Nebraska) didn't take any time to show off his power for the MoonDog fans with dropping a massive homerun to left field with his powerful swing from the right side of the plate. Christensen also went two-for-four while hitting a double to go along with his homer. The MoonDogs middle of the lineup just got a little more deadly with the addition of Christensen.
It was just a two-zero game until the fifth inning when the bats really started to come alive when the MoonDogs strung together a walk, three singles, a double, and the Christensen homerun, cutting deep into the Honker pitching rotation with five runs to make it a seven-zero game.
MoonDog fans got a little of everything tonight with the MoonDogs team playing stellar defensive and offense. The Rochester Honkers series continues Sunday in Rochester at Mayo Field for a day game with first pitch at 1:05 p.m.
The MoonDogs will be back at the Frank Monday night to take on The Alexandria Beetles for the first time this season. Monday is St. Peter Night along with Minute to Win It Night presented by Hot 96.7. Fans will have the opportunity to win prizes throughout the night by competing in various contests throughout the night. Season and single game tickets can be purchased at the MoonDogs office located at 1221 Caledonia Street.
