Lakeshore Chinooks News Release
For the second night in a row the Chinooks offence was firing on all cylinders pounding out a season high 17 hits in a 7-2 rout of Wisconsin Rapids on Saturday evening.
Coming into Saturday Ty Young (Louisville) had only played in one game for the Chinooks this season. He certainly wasted no time in making an impact. After picking up a hit and driving in a run in his first action on Friday, he picked up right where he left off on Saturday going 3-4 with a home run, 4 RBI's and scoring twice.
Pitching had the upper hand early as both teams could only muster one hit between the two through the first 3 innings of play. That all changed in the 4th when Eric Aguilera (Illinois State) delivered a one out double moving Bre Kimbell (Louisiana Tech), who had singled earlier in the inning, to third. Ty Young proceeded to lace a single to the right side scoring Aguilera and Kimbell making it 2-0 Chinooks.
The Chinooks added three more in the 6th sending 8 batters to the plate. The inning started with a Scott Wilcox (Western Kentucky) single. Kimbell followed with his second hit of the night but was eventually retired on fielders choice ground out by Aguilera putting Wilcox at third with only one down. Young picked up his third RBI of the night to make it 3-0 Chinooks. Ryan Krill delivered with a 2 RBI single to finish off the scoring in the 6th.
The Chinooks added a few more insurance runs in the final frame. With runners at first and third and nobody out Eric Aguilera grounded into a 6-4-3 double play allowing Scott Wilcox to score. Young added an exclamation mark to his night as he launched a 2-2 pitch over the wall for his 3rd hit and 4th RBI of the night.
Andrew Arenson (Carthage College) was outstanding on the mound for the Chinooks. He had the Wisconsin Rapids hitters off balance all evening long going 7 strong innings, giving up 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 9 Wisconsin Rapids hitters. This was a great bounce back from the shaky finish he had against Battle Creek one week ago.
This brief two game set continues Sunday, first pitch 1:05. Tyler Thicke from Madison College (0-1 2.57 ERA) will get the start for the Chinooks.
