Rapid City Rush News Release

The Rapid City Rush are proud to announce that veteran forward and player-assistant Chris Lipsett has earned the "Oakley CHL Player of the Week Award." Lipsett received the award for the period ending October 26th.

"To start the season on the road and play games in very difficult venues against very good teams you need your top end players stepping up and setting the tone in leading your hockey club and with the way Chris has played since the puck dropped In our first game in Colorado has been great," said Rush Head Coach Joe Ferras. "Chris is a pure professional that comes to the rink everyday ready to compete and his play along with the play of his line-mates Rich Hansen and Les Reaney has been terrific for our hockey club. It is fantastic for our organization as well as Chris personally to be recognized as the 'Oakley Player of the Week' and a well deserved honor."

Lipsett earned the honor after scoring five goals and two assists in a week that saw the Rush earn points in all three games. On Friday night, Lipsett made his way into the Rush record books for the second time when he scored the first hat-trick in Rapid City Rush history, en route to an 8-2 win over the Corpus Christi IceRays. A week earlier against the Colorado Eagles, Lipsett was able to score the first goal in Rapid City Rush history. Lipsett also picked up goals on Saturday night against the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees, and on Sunday night against the Laredo Bucks.

"From a team standpoint, we're off to a good start. We've been in games where we could've picked up both points, but being undefeated in regulation and getting points in every game is definitely a good start," said Lipsett. "I definitely feel good this year. I'm playing on a great line with Rich Hansen getting off to great start and Les Reaney who has been a great addition to the line as well. I attribute it more to the line playing well and the team playing well as opposed to just one player."

The Ottawa, Ontario native leads the league in goals and is tied for third in points as he has collected points in each of the first five games for Rapid City. For Lipsett, this is his second Player of the Week Award as he received the honor during the 2006-2007 season while playing for the Amarillo Gorillas of the CHL.
