Syracuse Mets News Release

The Syracuse Chiefs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, won their third straight game with a 7-5 victory on Friday over the Indianapolis Indians. In Tyler Moore's first game back with Syracuse after being optioned from Washington, the Chiefs' right fielder slammed a triple and home run while driving in four runs.

Indianapolis (31-23) got off to a good start against Chiefs right-hander Yunesky Maya, courtesy of center fielder Starling Marte. He slammed Maya's third pitch of the game over the left field wall for a solo home run, giving the Indians an early 1-0 lead.

Syracuse (26-28) would respond in the third inning against Indians right-hander Jeff Karstens. With James Skelton on second base and two outs, Erik Komatsu's groundout to shortstop was mishandled by Chase d'Arnaud for an error, putting runners on the corners. After a Jim Negrych walk, Mark Teahen grounded a two-run single up the middle. With the base hit, Teahen improved to 8 for 9 with the bases loaded this season. Moore then followed with a two-run triple high off the center field wall, plating Negrych and Teahen for a 4-1 lead.

The Indians would quickly answer in the bottom of the frame. Marte tripled to begin the inning, though two quick outs by Maya nearly ended the inning with no damage. But Jeff Clement singled to score Marte, Yamaico Navarro tripled to plate Clement, and Jeff Larish singled to get Navarro home. The three straight hits tied the game at four.

Moore would answer in the fifth. After a two-out infield single by Teahen, the 25-year-old slugger launched a fly ball over the left field for a two-run home run, giving Syracuse a 6-4 advantage. Moore's now hit eight home runs in 23 Syracuse games.

The Indians got one run back in the seventh inning, courtesy of Marte. The center fielder reached on a bunt single, stole second, took third on a throwing error by Skelton and scored on a groundout by d'Arnaud.

But former Indians infielder Jim Negrych struck the final blow for Syracuse. He slammed a Jose Diaz pitch to right-center field wall for a solo home run, Negrych's fourth long ball of the season.

Right-hander Hassan Pena then closed out the game with a perfect ninth inning for his second save in as many chances this season.

The Chiefs and Indians will return to the field on Saturday night at 7:05. Syracuse right-hander Tanner Roark and Indianapolis left-hander Jeff Locke are the scheduled starters.
