Johnstown Chiefs News Release


The Johnstown Chiefs (0-3-1) were winless in four this week, but still managed to clinch the fourth seed in the North division with a strong month of March. Wednesday, Wheeling blanked the Chiefs, 4-0, as Andy Franck earned his fifth shutout. On Friday, Johnstown rallied from a 4-2 deficit to force overtime in Reading, before losing 5-4. Sunday, Johnstown completed the weekend road trip with a 5-2 loss in Wheeling. The Chiefs are back on the road, Wednesday, in Trenton, Friday in Dayton, and Saturday in Wheeling. Game #64 (3/22/06) JOHNSTOWN 0 - Wheeling 4 Winer 27 saves

The Johnstown Chiefs were shutout for just the second time this season, and first at home, as they were unable to beat Nailers goalie, Andy Franck. Franck earned his league leading fifth shutout of the season. Mike Betz replaced Gabe Winer to start the third period and did not allow a goal on nine shots. Mike Rice scored his first goal as a Nailer, as Sean Collins, Mike Doyle and Cam Paddock added tallies for Wheeling. The loss dropped the Chiefs to 10 points behind the Nailers in the North division.

Game #65 (3/24/06) READING 5 - Johnstown 4 OT Betz 33 saves

For the second consecutive Friday, The Reading Royals outlasted the Johnstown Chiefs, winning in overtime. Jean Desrochers scored the first two Johnstown goals, but the Chiefs trailed 4-2. A pair of second period goals by Justin Kelly, 34 seconds apart, tied the game at 4. Chris Bala won the game for Reading with a slapshot from the left circle, with under a minute remaining in overtime.

Game #66 (3/25/06) TOLEDO 4 - Johnstown 3 Betz 34 saves

Toledo rookie Bracken Kearns netted a pair of goals, including the game winner, as the Chiefs fell short in a wild contest. The Chiefs racked up 54 penalty minutes in the third period, including three fighting majors and four misconduct penalties. The fighting majors, and three of the misconduct penalties occurred simultaneously at 15:54 of the third period. Brandon Elliott earned two misconduct penalties after his brawl with Storm forward, Matt Zultek. Jim Hakewill earned a fighting major and a misconduct penalty for scrapping with Tim Songin, while Kelly squared off with Scooter Smith. Brandon Elliott, Dmitri Tarabrin and Adam Henrich scored for Johnstown, which was never able to get the equalizer.

Game #67 (3/26/06) WHEELING 5 - Johnstown 2 Winer 41 saves

The Nailers continued their mastery of the Johnstown Chiefs, winning 5-2. Adam Henrich scored his 18th and Andre Deveaux scored his third for Johnstown. Kurtis McLean had a pair of goals and recently reassigned Arhpad Mihaly had a goal and an assist. Bill Downey scored his fourth of the year, and Eric Sonnenberg added his 17th goal.
