
Chiefs To Honor Military On Memorial Day

Peoria Chiefs News Release
Peoria, IL- The Peoria Chiefs will conclude a nine game home stand on Monday, May 28th against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers with Military Appreciation Day. The game will begin at 2 PM and is a Mountain Dew Half Price Monday, with all fans receiving half-priced admission. All active members of the military will receive free admission.
There will be members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and National Guard on hand to throw out ceremonial first pitches prior to the game. Patti Smith, who has two children currently serving in Iraq, will be singing the National Anthem.
The United States Army Special Ops All-American Freefall Team will be aboard a C-130 provided by the 182nd Airborne Wing stationed in Bartonville that will fly over the stadium at 1:50 PM and parachute into the stadium with the American flag. The C-130 will also flyover at 1000 feet at the conclusion of the National Anthem. There will be a special Army narration during the presentation.
When the gates open each branch of the military will have information tables set up on the concourse. There will be brochures, handouts and recruiting information available at the tables. The Army is also bringing a "tricked-out" Humvee as well as a Bradley Assault Vehicle that will be on display at the left field gate. There will be a replica section of the Vietnam Veterans' Memorial Wall on display.
Throughout the game there will be military themed videos on the video board as well as patriotic music playing to honor those who have and are currently serving in the military. During the game service men and women from all U.S. conflicts will be honored and recognized.
