After a strikeout, Giansanti hit a grounder to third base and as soon as Julio Cedeno threw to first, Silva raced home and beat the tag for a 2-1 Chiefs lead. Micah Gibbs followed with a double to right as Jones scored easily for a 3-1 Chiefs lead.

P.J. Francescon relived Daniel Berlind to start the bottom of the ninth and quickly got two flyouts. Schwarner kept the Hot Rods alive with a single to center and Castillo took advantage with a long home run over the Chiefs' bullpen in right field to tie the game 3-3. Luke Bailey singled to put the winning run on base and Francescon walked Kiermaier on a 3-2 pitch. With Cody Rogers at the plate, Francescon bounced in a 1-2 pitch and Bailey took off for third. Gibbs' throw sailed over the head of Geiger and into left field as Bailey easily scored the winning run on the wild pitch/error combination.
