Dayton, Ohio-Donald Lutz hit two home runs and drove in four runs to lead the Dayton Dragons to a 5-2 victory over the Burlington Bees on Monday before a crowd of 8,035 at Fifth Third Field. The win was the Dragons eighth straight, giving them their longest winning streak since 2007.

Dayton trailed 1-0 when Lutz bombed a long two-run home run to right field in the bottom of the fourth inning to give the Dragons a 2-1 lead.

Burlington came back to tie the game in the top of the sixth inning on a solo home run by A.J. Kirby-Jones to make it 2-2.

In the bottom of the sixth, Billy Hamilton walked, went to second on a ground out, advanced to third on a balk, and scored on Jaren Matthews' ground out to short to give the Dragons a 3-2 lead. After David Vidal reached on an error, Lutz drilled a home run to straightaway center field to make it 5-2. It was Lutz's 16th homer of the year and extended his hitting streak to 16 straight games, four short of the club record set by Carlos Mendez in 2009.

Dragons reliever Pat Doyle (6-2) was credited with the win, going three innings and allowing one run on four hits with no walks and four strikeouts. Drew Hayes struck out all three batters he faced in the ninth inning for his 16th save.

The Dragons collected six hits. Lutz and Ronald Torreyes each had two. Torreyes raised his batting average to .406 with two singles in four at-bats.

The Dragons are 22-8 in the second half and 57-43 on the season. They lead second place Lansing by two games and third place Great Lakes by four games in the Eastern Division of the Midwest League. Lansing, a first-half playoff qualifier, is not in the race for a second half playoff berth.

The Dragons are 10-1 at home in the month of July. They are 6-0 on the current homestand and have outscored their opponents 47-14.

Dayton does not play on Tuesday. They will host the Fort Wayne TinCaps on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at Fifth Third Field in the first game of the three-game series. Josh Smith (9-4, 2.51) will start for Dayton.
