Peoria Chiefs News Release
PEORIA, IL- The Peoria Chiefs offense was held to eight singles and no runs as they were shut out by the Clinton LumberKings 5-0 on Wednesday night. The Chiefs record is now 26-19 as they head out on a six-game road trip.
Clinton got a pair of unearned runs in the second inning to open the scoring. With a runner at third and two outs, Chiefs starter Blake McKnight got a slow ground ball from Martin Peguero to shortstop Juan Herrera that Herrera threw wide of first. Peguero advanced to second on the error and Chantz Mack followed with a single for a 2-0 LumberKings lead.
Clinton tacked on three more in the fifth as back-to-back singles to open the inning preceded a sacrifice bunt to put both runners in scoring position. Jack Reinheimer doubled in both of those runners and Marcus Littlewood singled home Reinheimer for a 5-0 lead and the end of the scoring.
The Chiefs only got two runners on base in the seventh inning. With two outs, Kenny Peoples-Walls and Justin Ringo singled but Mason Katz hit a hard line drive right at the shortstop to end the threat.
McKnight went the first 4 1/3 innings allowing five runs (three earned) on nine hits with two strikeouts. Chase Brookshire retired all eight batters he faced with one strikeout. Jhonny Polanco followed with a perfect eighth inning recording a strikeout. Kevin Herget tossed a perfect ninth inning with two strikeouts.
