PEORIA, Ill. - The Peoria Chiefs mashed three home runs, including a pair of three-run blasts to defeat West Michigan 8-1 on Saturday.

The Chiefs broke through in the first inning on Saturday and never looked back. After a Moises Castillo single and a free pass to Leandro Cedeno, Chandler Redmond hit his seventh home run of the year, an opposite-field shot, to give Peoria a 3-0 lead. It was a change of fortune for the Chiefs, who had been outscored in the first inning 10-0 through the first four games of the series.

West Michigan got one back in their half of the third inning but Peoria responded quickly in the fourth inning. After a throwing error moved Matt Chamberlain into scoring position, Francisco Hernandez singled against a drawn-in infield to give Peoria their three-run cushion back.

On the mound, Nick Trogrlic-Iverson twirled a gem. The Canadian right-hander went 6.2 innings and allowed just two hits to pick up his third win of the year.

Peoria put the game away in the bottom of the sixth, when they scored four times, including three on a home run from Zade Richardson, his sixth of the year. Three batters later, Cristhian Longa hit his first homer of the year, a solo shot to left field to play add-on.

The Chiefs are home tomorrow on the Fourth of July, as they wrap up their series against West Michigan. Jack Ralston will start for the Chiefs tomorrow. First pitch is slated for 5:35 p.m. with a double fireworks show to follow postgame. Tickets for tomorrow's Independence Day celebration are still available.
