Peoria Chiefs News Release

Appleton, WI - Due to extremely cold temperatures and blustery winds tonight's scheduled Peoria Chiefs game at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers has been cancelled. The game will be made up as part of a double header on Sunday May 13th beginning at 1:05 PM.

As of now, the 1:05 PM series finale on Saturday is still scheduled. The Chiefs will bump back today's scheduled starter RH Al Alburquerque to throw on Saturday. The Rattlers are expected to do the same with RH Chris Tillman.

The Chiefs beat Wisconsin Thursday night in the season opener 9-5 with a first pitch temperature of 32 degrees. Winds gusting to 30 MPH made the wind chill in the teens all game long. Tonight's forecast was even worse and called for a 50 % change of snow showers. Two games in the Midwest League were cancelled on Thursday in Beloit and Lansing. Nasty weather will likely cancel more games on Friday as well. Two other teams, Burlington and South Bend have already moved games originally scheduled for Saturday evening to the afternoon.

Of the five games that were played Thursday night, Wisconsin had the second highest attendance for an opener. Not counting Dayton's sell out, no stadium other than Time Warner Cable Field had over 1,000 fans in attendance. The Chiefs and Rattlers played in front of 1,814 fans while South Bend had 989, Clinton had 745 and Burlington 616 due to poor weather conditions.

The entire Midwest League is off on Easter Sunday and the Chiefs will head to Burlington for games on Monday and Tuesday before playing a pair against the Swing of the Quad Cities. The home opener is scheduled for Friday April 13 at 6:30 PM against Burlington. The Anheuser-Busch Clydesdales will be on hand for the pre-game ceremonies. The first 1500 fans get a 2007 Chiefs Magnet Schedule and if the Chiefs do not win then all fans can redeem their ticket for a free ticket to a game in April or May. There will also be a spectacular fireworks show after the game. Tickets are available online at www.peoriachiefs.com, by calling 1-866-MYTIKCET or in person at the O'Brien Field Box Office.
