West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The first 1,000 fans through the gates on Friday, April 13th against South Bend will receive a Cameron Maybin bobblehead presented by Sandy Pines RV Resort. The Maybin bobblehead giveaway is one of the most anticipated promotional items of the 2007 season.
The Detroit Tigers No. 1 prospect, according to Baseball America, spent all of last season with the Whitecaps in his first year of professional baseball. Maybin hit .304 with nine home runs, 69 RBIs in 101 games while leading the Whitecaps to their fourth Midwest League Championship in 2006. He was also named the Tigers 2006 Minor League Player of the Year following the season.
Maybin showcased his talents with the Tigers in spring training this March, hitting .429 with two home runs, seven RBIs and seven runs in 17 games. He started the 2007 season at Lakeland in the Florida State League.
"Cameron Maybin was an obvious fan favorite last season in West Michigan so it makes sense to have this giveaway for the fans," said Jim Jarecki, Vice President of Whitecaps Professional Baseball. "He joins Brandon Inge and Joel Zumaya as one of the most recognizable former Whitecaps."
Along with the Maybin bobblehead, the Whitecaps will give out four more bobbleheads throughout the season: Brent Clevlen on May 9th, Tom Brookens on June 12th, Ty Cobb bobblefoot on July 31st and Fan Vote bobblehead on August 27th.
The Whitecaps finish their two-game series with the Silver Hawks on Saturday, April 14th at 2:00 p.m. Fans will receive 2007 Whitecaps Magnetic Schedules presented by AIG.
Tickets are still available for April 13th at the Whitecaps Ticket Office at Fifth Third Ballpark or please call 616-784-4131 for more information. You can also purchase tickets online at the Whitecaps website at www.whitecapsbaseball.com and save a trip by choosing to print them at your home.
