
Chiefs knock out Rattlers with six run seventh

The Peoria Chiefs defeated the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 8-3 Monday night at Fox Cities Stadium. Terry Evans capped a six run outburst in the top of the seventh with a three run triple off the wall in center. The Rattlers have lost three straight.
Peoria (6-5) scored in the first inning for the second game in a row. Anthony Monegan doubled to start the game and moved to third on a bunt single by Brendan Ryan. Cody Haerther grounded into a 6-3 double play and Monegan scored for a 1-0 Chief lead.
The Rattlers (4-7) answered in the bottom of the first. Wladimir Balentien's two-out RBI single scored Michael Cox with the tying run.
Wisconsin took a 2-1 lead with an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth. Oswaldo Navarro was on second base with two out. Adam Jones sent a high chopper to short that Brendan Ryan booted for an error. Ryan threw to third when Navarro rounded the base to far. Peoria thirdbaseman Matt Dryer chased Navarro to the plate and flipped high. Navarro dove in under the tag for a 2-1 Rattler lead.
Peoria countered with an unearned run in the top of the sixth. Mike McCoy singled to start the inning. He went all the way to third on a wild pickoff throw by Rattler pitcher Tom Oldham. McCoy scored on a single by Brendan Ryan.
The Chiefs scored six times in the top of the seventh. Dryer snapped the tie with an RBI single. Later in the inning, Monegan had a two run single and Evans added a three run triple for a 8-2 Peoria lead.
Jones singled in a run for the Rattlers in the eighth inning, but that was it for the Rattlers on the night.
The Rattlers begin a four game series with the Burlington Bees at Fox Cities Stadium on Tuesday night. Brandon Moorhead (1-0, 0.00ERA) is the scheduled starter for the Timber Rattlers. Carlos Rosa (0-2, 1.80ERA) is the scheduled starter for the Bees.
