Saskatoon Blades News Release
Spokane, WA - The Spokane Chiefs have extended their home-winning record against the Blades to five games after defeating Saskatoon 5-1 at the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena on Wednesday night.
Spokane, the Blades' first stop on a massive seven game road trip, took advantage of a lull by the visitors to end the 2nd period by piling on three quick goals in 2:39 minutes. The rush of goals put the Chiefs, who scored an early power play goal in the 1st period, up 4-0.
The Chiefs added a fifth goal into an empty net midway through the final period as the Blades' pulled Koen MacInnes for an extra-attacker in an effort to energize the team.
Though Saskatoon didn't score with the extra-man on the ice, they did find the back of the net shortly after through Tristen Robins from Kyle Crnkovic & Aidan De La Gorgendiere, setting the final score at 5-1 Spokane. The Crnkovic, Eric Florchuk, and Robins forward line was among the best for the Blades, combining for nine shots on goal.
The Blades finished the night leading in shots on goal with 29 to the Chiefs' 23. Saskatoon also finished the night 0/6 on the power play which included four extra-attacker opportunities in the first half of the 2nd period. Both clubs won 26 face-offs each. MacInnes stopped all six shots he faced in the 3rd period on relief duty.
The Bridge City Bunch now depart Spokane for Everett where they will be tested by the Silvertips on Friday night. Puck drop is at 9:35pm CST and it is "Mitch Love Night" in Everett as current Blades' Head Coach Mitch Love returns, for the first time since joining the Saskatoon organization, to the WHL club he both played and coached for.
The Blades next home game is on December 7th for Girls Rock! Night against the Kelowna Rockets, featuring a pre-game empowerment talk from NASCAR Pinty's Series Driver Shantel Kalika & the Saskatoon Valkyries of the WWCFL.
