November 21, 2019 - Western Hockey League (WHL) News Release

Calgary, Alta. - The Western Hockey League, in association with the Okanagan Hockey Group (OHG) and Sport Testing Inc., have announced the 2020 WHL Development Combine schedule for Western Canada, beginning March 27 to 29 in Winnipeg, Man.

Over the past five seasons, between the WHL Development Combines and the other WHL Combine initiatives, the program has tested more than 25,000 players. WHL Development Combines are designed to assist minor hockey players with their skill development, ability assessment, and provide exposure to the WHL.

"We have designed the WHL Development Combines so that players are introduced to every aspect of player development," said WHL Manager of Player Development Zach Hodder. "Players will have on and off ice testing as well as development sessions on ice.

"There will be information seminars where they will learn about the WHL as well as other topics such as fitness and nutrition, mental training, player development and the qualities that WHL scouts look for in players."

These unique two-and-a-half day events will provide players with a wide variety of on and off ice development information and resources. In addition, players will gain a better understanding of their current abilities with the WHL Combines Results Package. Following the WHL Combine Standard Tests, the same testing done at the Kubota CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in January, test results will be entered into the exclusive WHL Combines database that is shared and used by WHL clubs to track and identify players.

Individual participants will receive also receive their very own WHL Combine account, with unique online access, which includes:

Results Reports: individual and comparative results from the combine

Progress Reports: track and compare your results and progress over time

Access to WHL Database: compare results to over 25,000 athletes tested by WHL Combines

Targeted Development: use the results to pinpoint areas of improvement, and target off-ice and on-ice development needs

"The WHL Development Combines provide players with a unique player development experience where they will measure themselves through standardized testing protocols," said Okanagan Hockey Group Combines Manager George Cochrane. "The ability to compare results and identify areas of weakness will enable players to take their game to the next level as they strive to play at the highest possible level."

The WHL Development Combines will be open to players born from 2005 to 2009.
