Spokane Chiefs News Release

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs utilized an explosive second period Wednesday night to blow past that Saskatoon Blades 5-1 on the back of a strong goaltending effort from LA Kings prospect Lukas Parik and two goals from d-man Bobby Russell.

The Chiefs claimed the lead at 3:20 when Russell went coast-to-coast with Spokane on a power play, streaking right through the center of the Blades' defense and putting one over the right shoulder of Saskatoon goaltender Nolan Maier. Chiefs net minder Lukas Parik picked-up an assist on the play as Spokane held a 1-0 lead headed into the break.

A wild second period began with the Chiefs committing four consecutive penalties within 10 minutes of each other, but the penalty kill held strong, turning away each of the Blades' chances. Following the defensive stand, Spokane rattled off a trio of goals separated by less than three minutes, including Russell's second marker of the night as well as scores by Bear Hughes and Cordel Larson. Box Score: SPO (5) vs. SAS (1)

Minnesota Wild prospect Adam Beckman added an empty-netter at 11:21 of the final period before Saskatoon benefited from an errant puck that bounced past Parik off a Chiefs skater to spoil the shutout as Spokane claimed the 5-1 victory.

Parik was excellent on the night, allowing just the one score while going 28-of-29. Marier was 12-for-16 before replaced for the third period by Koen MacInnes, who ended the night 6-for-6. The Chiefs' power play went 1-for-2 and the Blades were held o-for-4.
