Syracuse Mets News Release

The Syracuse Chiefs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, were stunned in extra innings 6-5 by the Durham Bulls on Saturday night. A three-run eleventh inning gave Syracuse a 5-2 lead before the Bulls struck for four runs in the fourth. Corey Brown's two-run home run and Jhonatan Solano's RBI double in the top of the eleventh put the Chiefs ahead before Durham rallied against relievers J.D. Martin and Adam Carr.

Starters Yunesky Maya and Alex Torres had the two teams locked in another pitcher's duel into the sixth inning. Durham (18-12) struck first with two runs on a Justin Ruggiano RBI double and Russ Canzler RBI single. Syracuse (9-19) tied the game in the eighth when Alex Valdez drove a Jake McGee pitch over the left field wall to tie the game at two. Chief relievers Collin Balester and Josh Wilkie combined for three and one-third scoreless innings in relief of Maya to send the game to the eleventh in a 2-2 tie.

In the eleventh inning, Carlos Maldonado walked with one out to set up Brown's blast to right field. The center fielder's home run was his second of the year and put the Chiefs up 4-2. Tug Hulett then singled and scored when Solano drove a 2-2 pitch off the left field wall for his 5th RBI of the year.

In the bottom of the eleventh, Chris Carter homered off Martin to cut the Chiefs' lead to 5-3. After a walk and a strikeout, Carr entered the game and gave up a single to Leslie Anderson. After Omar Luna's swinging strikeout, back-to-back walks to Ray Olmedo and Desmond Jennings led to a Durham run. Ruggiano then lined a deep single to center field for two runs to give the Bulls the walkoff win.

Syracuse and Durham conclude their four-game series tomorrow night at 5:05 PM from Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Lefthander Ross Detwiler will throw for the Chiefs against righty Brian Baker.
