
G-Braves Beat Rochester 6-3, End Four Game Skid

The Lead: The Gwinnett Braves ended a four game losing streak by beating the Rochester Red Wings, 6-3 on Saturday night at Frontier Field in Rochester, N.Y. The Braves score one run in the eighth inning and two in the ninth to break a 3-all deadlock. The G-Braves (15-13) remain 2.0 games in back of Durham in the International League South, while Rochester (12-15) is in fourth place in the IL North.
It Was Over When: 1B Mauro Gomez drove in 2B Matt Young with a double in the top of the eighth to put the Braves up 4-3. Center fielder Jordan Schafer then delivered a clutch, two out 2 RBI single in the top of the ninth to seal the win.
Braves Beat:
On the Mound: LHP Yohan Flande made his first start of the season and pitched a fine game. His line: 5.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R/ER, 2 BB, 2 K's. LHP Jose Lugo gave up two unearned runs in the sixth to allow Rochester to tie the game. RHP Juan Abreu (1-0) worked 2.1 innings with one strikeout and picked up the win. Scott Proctor pitched a three-up, three-down ninth for his second save. Braves' pitching gave up only three hits and one earned run on the night.
At the plate: 1B Mauro Gomez had another big night with his third homerun in as many games, tying a G-Braves record. He was 2-for-5 with 2 RBI and his 6th homer of the season. LF Jose Constanza, CF Jordan Schafer, 2B Matt Young and DH Stefan Gartrell each had two hits.
The Opposition:
On the Mound: RHP Kyle Gibson started, worked six innings giving up three earned runs. RHP Carlos Gutierrez (1-2) got the loss: 2.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R/0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K's. RHP Kyle Waldrop gave up two earned run in 0.2 IP. Former Braves pitcher Chuck James went 0.1 IP giving up the two run single to Schafer in the 9th.
At the plate: RF Brian Dinkleman, 1B Jeff Bailey and C Steve Holm had the only hits for the Red Wings. Dinkleman and Holm each had a double; Bailey a single.
On Deck: Gwinnett and Rochester play the final game series tomorrow afternoon at 1:05 p.m. at Frontier Field. Braves RHP Todd Redmond (0-3 3.49 ERA) is scheduled to face former G-Braves LHP Scott Diamond (1-1, 2.81 ERA) of the Red Wings.
