PEORIA, IL - The Peoria Chiefs have announced Rocky Vonachen Night at Dozer Park on Saturday, June 9 as the Chiefs host Quad Cities at 6:30 p.m. The night also includes post-game fireworks, a bobblehead giveaway featuring 2015 Chiefs infielder and Illinois State alum Paul DeJong and Cystic Fibrosis Night.
Vonachen retired in January after 22 years leading the Chiefs and more than 30 years in the front office. Prior to the game on June 9 he will throw out a first pitch and be honored by the team and community. Fans are encouraged to arrive early to show their appreciation for Rocky's service to Central Illinois and the Chiefs organization since the fall of 1983.
"This is a night we've been looking to put together since the day Rocky retired," said Jason Mott, Chiefs General Manager. "Our staff and the community owe a lot to Rocky and this gives us a chance to properly honor and thank him for everything he has done."
Vonachen's family will be on hand June 9 as well with his grandson Chip also throwing out a first pitch for Cystic Fibrosis Night.. The Chiefs staff has some surprises in store for the Vonachen's that night. A post-game Fireworks show will light up the sky above Dozer Park in the second game of a seven-game homestand.
