CHICAGO, July 8, 2008 - The WNBA Chicago Sky has signed forward Leah Rush to a seven day free agent contract, Head Coach and General Manager Steven Key announced today. Per team policy, terms of the contract have not been released.
Rush, a 6'1" forward, was selected by the Phoenix Mercury in the third round (28th overall) of the 2007 WNBA Draft, and was released during the team's 2007 training camp. During the 2008 training camp Rush played in one pre-season game for the Seattle Storm scoring 2 points and grabbing one rebound against the Sky on April 30 at the UIC Pavilion. A 2007 graduate of Oklahoma University, Rush finished her senior year averaging 9.8 points and 4.0 rebounds, and 1.5 assist per game. She received honorable mention All-Big 12, named to the All-Big 12 Championship team, and the All-Big 12 Tournament team.
The Sky is one of seven independently-owned teams in the WNBA, the world's longest-running women's professional sports league. The Sky celebrated its inaugural season in 2006, and finished a successful sophomore season with a 14-20 record and guard Armintie Price named WNBA Rookie of the Year.
