Chicago Sky News Release
CHICAGO- The Chicago Sky has named the Thornton Fractional North High School Lady Meteors its tenth and final 2008 "High School Team of the Week." Through hard work and humility, these Lady Meteors are making school history as they continue chasing the 3A state title.
On January 31, T.F. North defeated Thornridge High School to win the SICA East conference championship, the team's first conference title since 1985. The Lady Meteors went on to win their first Regional Championship since 1986 by defeating Illiana Christian on February 14. By defeating Oak Forest High School on Tuesday, February 19, the team's record improved to 26-4, which sets the record for most wins by any basketball team (boys or girls) at T.F. North. These players attribute their achievements to hard work, teamwork and leading by example. Off the court, the girls stay active in the community. They participated in a food drive over Thanksgiving, with the coaches and players donating over 300 items to help needy families in the community.
On Thursday, February 21 at 7:30pm, T.F. North will take on Washington High School at Hillcrest High School for the sectional championship.
The Meteors will receive a "Team Night Out" ticket package to a summer 2008 Sky home game, where they will have the opportunity to watch the world's best women basketball players. They will be honored on the court and will meet and talk with Sky players and coaches. Previous high school team of the week winners include: Tinley Park High School, Shiloh High School, Stevenson High School, Wheaton Warrenville South High School, Morgan Park Academy, North Boone High School and Crete-Monee High School, Galena High School and Mother McAuley High School.
The Chicago Sky launched its "High School Team of the Week" program to recognize varsity girls' basketball teams in northern Illinois whose athletes demonstrate sportsmanship and leadership on and off the basketball court. Every Tuesday during the high school basketball season, the Chicago Sky will select a team that succeeds beyond the win-loss column and makes a difference in its school and community. The Sky is accepting nominations from parents, coaches, faculty members or players at www.chicagosky.net.
