Minnesota Lynx Honor Eight More Teams with the "Lynx Team of the Week" Awards

Minneapolis/St. Paul - The Minnesota Lynx are proud to announce the eight high schools that have earned the distinction of receiving the "Lynx Team of the Week" awards, which includes results through Feb. 14.

This is the 11th consecutive week that the Minnesota Lynx have recognized one girls team and one boys team in each of the state's four classes of competition. The program will continue every week throughout the high school regular season.

This week's recipients are:

Girls Basketball

Class A

Hancock is the Class A Lynx Team of the Week after extending its winning streak to four games following three wins in the week. The week included wins over Underwood (61-26) on Feb. 8, Brandon-Evansville (58-44) on Feb. 11, and Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley (64-42) on Feb. 12. The Lady Owls have won seven of their last eight games and 13 of their last 15 games and are 17-3 after the week. With the win over Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley, the Lady Owls have wrapped up their second consecutive Pheasant Conference Championship, finishing a perfect 6-0 in conference play.

Class AA

Rochester Lourdes is the Class AA Lynx Team of the Week after three victories in the week helped push the Eagles' winning streak to eight games. The Eagles pulled off wins over Kasson-Mantorville (38-32) on Feb. 8, Byron (50-37) on Feb. 12, and La Crescent (28-26) on Feb. 14. Along with the eight-game winning streak, the Eagles have also won 11 of their last 12 games, a run that has pushed the Eagles into first place in the Hiawatha Valley League-Gold standings at 10-1.

Class AAA

Grand Rapids is the Class AAA Lynx Team of the Week after extending its winning streak to 16 straight games following three wins in the week. The Thunderhawks earned wins over Milaca (69-33) on Feb. 8, Little Falls (60-44) on Feb. 9, and Brainerd (49-45) on Feb. 12. After stumbling to a 3-4 start to the season, the Thunderhawks are now 19-4 after the week. Grand Rapids has held opponents to 43.3 points per game, the fifth-lowest total in Class AAA, and it has also won its games by an average margin of 14.1 points per game, which is the sixth-best winning margin in Class AAA.

Class AAAA

Lakeville North is the Class AAAA Lynx Team of the Week after snapping a six-game losing streak with seven straight wins, including three wins in the week. The Panthers' wins this week came against Eagan (55-46) on Feb. 8, Rogers (60-39) on Feb. 9, Rosemount (66-48) on Feb. 12, and Chaska (50-47) on Feb. 14. The Panthers were 9-2 prior to the six-game slide, but thanks to the win streak, they have improved to 16-8 and are tied for third place in the Lake Conference. The Panthers have held opponents to 49.0 points per game, which is the best defensive effort in the conference.

Boys Basketball

Class A

Bertha-Hewitt is the Class A Lynx Team of the Week after keeping its perfect season alive with three victories in the week. The Bears improved to 20-0 following wins over Pillager (63-47) on Feb. 8, Battle Lake (86-41) on Feb. 11, and Menahga (83-41) on Feb. 14. The Bears are also a perfect 10-0 in the Park Region Conference. To date, the Bears have posted the second-stingiest defense in Class A, holding opponents to 45.0 points per game. The also hold the third-best margin of victory in Class A, beating opponents by 28.2 points per game.

Class AA

Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop is the Class AA Lynx Team of the Week after posting two wins in the week to extend its winning streak to 14 games. The Thunderbirds earned wins over Minnesota Valley Lutheran (60-56 OT) on Feb. 8 and Cedar Mountain/Comfrey (67-58) on Feb. 11 to improve to 17-3 overall. The Thunderbirds have posted an average margin of victory of 19.2 points per game, ninth best in Class AA. The Thunderbirds' last loss came on Dec. 26 in the first game of the Willmar Holiday Tournament against tournament host Willmar (54-83).

Class AAA

Spring Lake Park is the Class AAA Lynx Team of the Week after improving to 12-8 overall following a pair of wins in the week. The Panthers earned wins over Robbinsdale Cooper (58-57) on Feb. 8 and Irondale (63-41) on Feb. 12. The Panthers' defense has limited opponents to just 57.7 points per game, which is the second-best defensive effort in the North Suburban Conference and 13th-best in all of Class AAA.

Class AAAA

Cretin-Derham Hall is the Class AAAA Lynx Team of the Week following three victories that helped the Raiders improve to 17-2 overall. The Raiders earned wins over Stillwater Area (81-69) on Feb. 8, Roseville (73-55) on Feb. 12, and Hastings (70-57) on Feb. 14 to extend their winning streak to six games. Cretin-Derham Hall is 10-1 in the Suburban East Conference, tied for first place with Stillwater Area. The Raiders have scored 70.0 points per game this season, the highest offensive output in the conference.

Each team will receive a Certificate of Merit, courtesy of the Minnesota Lynx, along with a spotlight on Lynxbasketball.com. All 104 teams will also be invited to a Lynx game during the 10th Anniversary season this summer.
