Chicago Fire FC Unveil 2022 "Water TowerâÃâ¬Ã Primary Jersey
February 17, 2022 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Chicago Fire FC News Release
CHICAGO - Chicago Fire FC today unveiled its newest primary jersey, named the "Water Tower" kit, ahead of the Club's 25th season in Major League Soccer.
With the Fire set to begin a new campaign under head coach Ezra Hendrickson, the Water Tower kit draws inspiration from a landmark that is treasured by Chicagoans. A rallying point for the city after becoming one of the only public buildings to survive the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, the Water Tower stood as a symbol for a city determined to rise from its own ashes.
The new primary kit features a subtle design throughout the jersey that mimics the intricacies of the Water Tower's architecture. The Water Tower kit, which will make its debut on Feb. 26 for the Fire's season opener, has a vibrant red along the sleeves and collar, paying homage to the primary color that defined the Fire in its early seasons. The Club's official jersey partner, Chicago-based Motorola, will once again be proudly featured on the front of both jerseys as they return for the 2022 season. The primary jersey will feature the iconic Motorola "batwing" logo in white, while a navy version of the batwing logo will be woven across the chest of the secondary jersey.
Additionally, the Club's new crest will officially make its debut this season on the team's primary and secondary jerseys. The crest's key elements - a six-pointed star contained within the letter "C," surrounded by a modernized Florian cross incorporating the Chicago city flag colors - is displayed above the heart. The championship star from the 1998 MLS Cup lies just over the new logo.
The Water Tower jersey was revealed by the Club in a video that featured Fire supporters, along with Chicago Red Stars' Danielle Colaprico and Arin Wright, Tzuco chef-owner Carlos Gaytan, artist Sentrock, Chicago historian Shermann 'Dilla' Thomas, and former Fire players Logan Pause and Evan Whitfield, who played an important role during the Club's most successful period. In addition, the Club tapped 10 of its current Homegrown Players to personalize the jersey to display their individual styles and pride to represent their local team on and off the pitch.
Chicago is scheduled to open the 2022 season on the road, taking on Inter Miami CF at DRV PNK Stadium on Saturday, Feb. 26 at 5:00 p.m. CT. The Fire will then host its home opener at Soldier Field against Orlando City SC on Saturday, March 5 at 5:00 p.m. CT, marking the earliest home opener in Club history. Tickets for the Fire's home opener are currently available for purchase.
