Charlotte Checkers News Release

(Charlotte, NC) - Checkers players Mike Wirll and Steve MacIntryre will play tonight for the WHA2 2003-04 season championship. The pair were sent to the Jacksonville Barracudas following the Checkers season finale on April 3, in an attempt to help the WHA club win a championship. The Barracudas have a handshake affiliation with the New York Rangers organization. Both Wirll and MacIntyre are under Hartford Wolf Pack contracts, and both had stints earlier this season in Jacksonville.

The Barracudas landed in the WHA2 Championship finals after eliminating the Miami Manatees in a third and deciding game. Wirll scored the game-winning goal in overtime in the third and deciding game in the series with Miami, propelling Jacksonville to the finals. Against the Macon Trax, the barracudas are up one game to none in the best of three series, with game two tonight in Macon, Georgia. In WHA2 playoff games, Wirll has two goals and one assists for three points in four games, while MacIntyre has one assist and 15 penalty minutes in four games.
