Atlanta Gladiators News Release

The Louisiana IceGators overcame a 1-0 deficit and knocked off the Gwinnett Gladiators 3-1 in the first game of the Central Division Final and take a 1 game to none series lead in the best-of-five series on Friday night at the Cajundome in Lafayette, Louisiana. In the opening period, the teams skated to a scoreless tie as neither team could generate any offense.

Jim Jackson broke a scoreless tie halfway through the third period with his second goal of the post season. Jackson corralled a pass from Chris Durno in the left wing circle and ripped a shot over an outstretched Louisiana netminder Derek Gustafson for the tally. Steve Slonina also added an assist on the goal for the Gladiators as Kris Goodjohn, Durno and Slonina cycled the puck deep in the Louisiana zone.

Rod Sarich tied the game up at 1-1 at 4:06 of the third period as his shot from the right wing circle had just enough steam to get past Gladiators netminder Adam Munro. Bruce Richardson won an offensive draw cleanly to Sarich. The defenseman's shot had just enough juice to get past Munro for the score.

Louisiana took the lead two minutes later as Gwinnett could not clear the puck out of their own end allowing Richardson to find Kenny Corupe in the slot to set up the game winner. Corupe ripped a slap shot past Munro for the score.

Bruce Richardson iced the contest for the IceGators with an empty net goal with 1:14 left in the final period as the Gladiators pulled Munro in favor of an extra attacker. Bobby Brown added an assist on the goal.
