Charlotte Checkers News Release

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Checkers fired 34 shots at Sea Wolves netminder Ryan Munce on Tuesday night at home but couldn't find a way to beat him as Charlotte got shut out by Mississippi, 2-0.

After a scoreless first period the Sea Wolves struck for the first goal of the game and it was on the man-advantage. Streaking down the right wing boards in the Checkers zone, Ryan Cruthers centering attempt deflected off the skates of a Charlotte defenseman and past goalie Jeff Jakaitis at 12:35. This put the Sea Wolves up 1-0 after forty minutes of action.

During the third stanza, the only goal came as Mississippi forward Mark Rooneem split the Checkers defense and lifted the puck over the left pad of Jakaitis at 18:05. This gave the Sea Wolves an insurance mark they wouldn't need as they shut out the Checkers by a score of 2-0.

The Checkers are playing their 16th season of play as a member of the ECHL. The next home game takes place on Sunday, Nov. 30 against the Augusta Lynx at 4 P.M. start. In the team's 15-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 11 times including four consecutive playoff appearances to date. The Checkers are entering their fourth season of play at Time Warner Cable Arena. Season tickets are on sale now with full-season packages starting at just $396.
