Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors 10th annual Teddy Bear Toss is this Saturday when the Condors host the Idaho Steelheads at the Mercy & Memorial Hospitals Home Ice at Rabobank Arena. Doors open at 6 p.m., puck drops at 7 p.m.
Sponsored by KBAK-29, KERN 1410 and Wells Fargo, fans are encouraged to bring stuffed animals to the game to hurl onto the ice when the Condors score their first goal of the night. The bears will be collected by the United Way of Kern County and given to local children in need. Three of the top five attended games in Condors history have been Teddy Bear Toss games, so purchase your tickets now and arrive early.
The Condors have collected a grand-total of 44,855 stuffed animals from the past nine Teddy Bear Toss Games. Last year, 7,026 of the cuddly toys were collected, ranking second all-time in Condors Teddy Bear Toss history behind 7,149 bears during the 2004-05 season.
Every fan to pass through the turnstiles Saturday night will receive a "Condors Top Guns" poster, featuring rookie scoring sensation F Matt Caruana and leading scorer LW Mark Derlago. Both players will be at the Bakersfield Marriott Autograph Booth following the game. The autograph booth is located on the arena concourse behind section 108. The players will arrive at the booth approximately 20 minutes after the conclusion of the game to meet fans and sign autographs. Bring your Top Gun poster for the Condors top guns to sign!
Saturday will also be the first Condors Big Buddies Night of the year, during which local businesses sponsor non-profit youth organizations, enabling under-privileged kids to share the excitement of Condors hockey.
During the first intermission, the Ice Sports Center In-House Mites, coached by Condors legend Paul Willett, will hold a scrimmage on the ice. During the second intermission, fans will have a chance to win up to $200 in Chuck-A-Puck, as well as free Condors gear thrown out to the crowd throughout both intermissions.
Saturday's game will be televised live on Bright House Networks Ch. 21. All televised games will be available on Bakersfield On Demand Cable Ch. 300, starting the following day.
You can catch all Condors games, home and away, on ESPN Radio 1230.
