Checkers Jakaitis Named Rbk Hockey Goalie Of The Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Jeff Jakaitis of the Charlotte Checkers is the Rbk Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Oct. 17-19.

The 25-year-old netminder made 35 saves, including stopping the last 20 shots he faced, in a 3-1 win on Saturday at Florida.

The 5-foot-10 and 165-pound Jakaitis played as a rookie last season with Columbia where he was 12-14-6 with two shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.92 and a save percentage of .909 in 36 regular season games.

Prior to turning professional the Rochester, Minn. native played three seasons at Lake Superior State University where he was 35-48-14 with seven shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.44 and a save percentage of .923 in 100 games.

Runners Up: Craig Kowalski, Phoenix (1-1-0, 2.02 GAA, .939 save pct.) James Reimer, Reading (1-0-0, 2.00 GAA, .926 save pct.) and Jeff Zatkoff, Ontario (1-0-0, 1.00 GAA, .966 save pct.).

Also Nominated: David Leggio (Florida), Kevin Nastiuk (Gwinnett), Michal Neuvirth (South Carolina), Jeff Frazee (Trenton) and Nathan Lawson (Utah).
