Augusta Lynx News Release

The Charlotte Checkers rallied from a two-goal first period deficit to grab a 3-2 shootout win over the Augusta Lynx on Monday night at the Charlotte Bobcats Arena.

Brian Passmore gave Augusta the lead at 12:00 of the first period, finding a chink in the armor on Jeff Glass from behind the goal line, bouncing a puck in off the goaltender's skate for a 1-0 lead. Dan Sullivan and Doug Wright helped set up the goal with a solid effort in the corners, working the puck to Passmore for the shot.

Ryan Lang followed that effort by picking off a clearing pass in the Charlotte slot, gloving the puck down to himself and carrying wide to the left side before beating Glass from another tough angle to forge a 2-0 lead. The unassisted goal came at 16:17 of the opening frame.

Charlotte answered with a breakaway goal from Walker McDonald in the second period. McDonald took a breakaway feed from Rory Rawlyk at 5:12 and broke in alone on Mike Wall, beating the Lynx netminder over the left shoulder to cut the lead to 2-1 after 40 minutes of play.

The Checkers would even the game with the only goal of the third period, a shorthanded marker from Luke Stauffacher at 11:07 as he punched home the rebound of a point shot in the Lynx zone to force overtime.

Mike Bayrack had the best chance to end the game in OT, hitting the crossbar behind Mike Wall with under two minutes left in sudden death. But no scoring prevailed, and the game pushed on to a shootout, where Charlotte scored twice in four rounds while Augusta failed to mark.

Wall finished the game with 29 saves while Glass ended the night with 34 stops for the win. Augusta finished the night 0-for-6 on the power play while the Checkers ended the evening 0-for-5.

The Lynx get back to game action this Friday night against the same Checkers, this time at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center at 7:05 pm to kick off Country and Western Weekend as well as celebrate Family Y night.
