San Diego Gulls News Release

SAN DIEGO - After starting their four-game road trip with two straight losses, things could've gotten ugly for the San Diego Gulls. Instead the exact opposite happened. The Gulls rebounded nicely with two straight victories - pretty convincing victories by the way - and ended up splitting the trek 2-2-0. Now they get set for a four-game homestand, which starts Wednesday against the red-hot Alaska Aces.

WEEK IN REVIEW:

Dec. 27 @ Las Vegas: The Gulls opened a quick 1-0 lead, but the Wranglers answered big-time with seven straight goals and went on to beat San Diego 7-2. It was Las Vegas's 11th consecutive victory. Charles Linglet, Matt Dzieduszycki and Dan Tudin each notched three points, while netminders Mike McKenna and Marc Magliarditi combined for 24 saves. McKenna and Gulls goaltender Tom Lawson were ejected midway through the third period after a fighting altercation at center ice.

Dec. 29 @ Idaho: Jonathon Zion broke a 1-1 tie early in the third period and Matt Yeats stopped 23 shots, leading the Steelheads to a tight 2-1 victory over the frustrated Gulls. Alex Kim gave San Diego an early lead with a short-handed goal, but nothing else officially beat Yeats. The Gulls thought they had two goals in the third period, but they were both disallowed. Lawson stopped 27 shots, but suffered the hard-luck loss.

Dec. 30 @ Idaho: San Diego got its revenge Friday night with a convincing 7-2 victory in Boise. Richard Keyes notched a pair of goals and added an assist, while Kim chipped in with one goal and two helpers. Four other Gulls finished with multipoint games, one of which included Lawson, who recorded two assists. He also turned aside 28 shots, as San Diego broke its two-game losing streak.

Dec. 31 @ Idaho: The Gulls capped their road trip with another victory against the Steelheads on New Year's Eve, this time earning a 5-1 triumph. Kim netted another short-handed goal, his second in the series, and all-star winger Jesse Bennefield notched two goals. Pierre-Luc Sleigher chipped in with a goal and an assist for the second straight game and netminder Tyler Weiman stopped 36 shots. Weiman had 20 saves alone in the second period.

Individual Notes: Kim is in the midst of a nine-game point streak and has 17 points during that span (7g, 10a). He has 24 points total in 15 games with the Gulls (11g, 13a) and also leads the club with a +14... Bennefield, San Diego's all-star representative, has 16 points (9g, 7a) in the last 10 games... Weiman has stopped 153 out of 162 shots in his last five games (.944 save percentage)...

Team Notes: San Diego killed 31 of 35 penalties on its four-game road trip, including 24 of 25 during its three-game series in Idaho... The Gulls scored three short-handed goals in Idaho last week, two of which were scored by Kim and the other setup by Kim... San Diego is 6-3-1 in its last 10 road games... Seven of its next eight games are at home...
